FAQ
Seven common questions about baby sleep.
Frequently asked questions
How strictly do I need to follow the wake-window recommendation?
The recommendation is a starting point — ±15-minute variance is normal. Sleepy cues (eye rubbing, ear pulling, yawning, glazed eyes) outrank the clock. The tracker shifts colour at 80% and 100% of the recommended window to flag bedtime visually. When cues conflict with the clock, trust the cues.
How long does the four-month regression last, and how do we cope?
Typically 2-6 weeks. It marks a permanent shift to adult-style four-stage cycles. Hold the existing routine — do not change schedules during the regression. Teaching drowsy-but-awake transfer in this window pays dividends for years. Resist the temptation to introduce a new method mid-regression; consistency wins.
Naps end at 30-40 minutes — is that normal?
Infant sleep cycles are 40-50 minutes long, so waking after the first cycle is common. Audit three variables first: wake-window length, room darkness, and white noise (under 50 dB). If short naps persist for a month after those are dialled in, your baby may simply be a short-nap baby — many are.
How long should I keep night feeds?
Medically most babies can drop night feeds around six months, but individual variation is wide. If weight gain is steady and solids are progressing, talk to your pediatrician about a gradual taper. Log feed times and wake-ups in the tracker; the visual correlation between the two often makes the next step obvious.
How do I compute age for a preterm baby?
Use corrected age (from the due date), at least through 12 months. Enter the due date as the birth date in the tracker and the wake-window band is selected accordingly. Some specialists keep using corrected age through 24 months; ask your pediatrician what they recommend for your child.
Which sleep-training method is best — Ferber, CIO, No-cry or Chair?
There is no single best method. Ferber and CIO produce change in 3-7 nights but require accepting some crying. No-cry and Chair take 2-6 weeks but are gentler. Weigh apartment noise, parental stamina and separation-anxiety levels. This tool is method-neutral and does not endorse any of them.
Is my data safe? Is anything stored in the cloud?
All sleep data stays in your browser’s localStorage; nothing is sent to a server. Cloud sync is intentionally absent — to share across devices, use a PWA shortcut on the same household device. Clearing browser data clears the history, so screenshot important stretches if you want a permanent record.
